Regarding the killings of American citizens by federal agents in Minneaoplis.

Representative Elise Stefanik

12 Spring Street

Suite 102

Schuylerville, NY 12871

Dear Representative Stefanik:

The recent actions of ICE and other federal agents in Minnesota have compelled me to write to you today. In the last few weeks, I have witnessed my own government engage in state terror not once, but repeatedly on the streets of Minneapolis.

The outrages include:

  • The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Jeffrey Pretti. The actions of federal agents in these incidents were escalatory and brutal. The deaths of these Americans were senseless and obviously preventable. That these officers are unlikely to be investigated is inconceivable.

  • The unprofessional way agents have conducted themselves. Law enforcement officers who are concerned about the well-being and safety of the people they serve do not wear masks. The agents in Minneapolis have no such mission; they wear masks to instill terror and to avoid accountability. They behave like thugs and act with impunity. Their actions should offend to the core any decent American law enforcement officer.

  • The Trump Administration’s blatant lies about the actions of ICE and Border Patrol. The administration’s disinterest in even pro forma investigations of complaints demonstrates their contempt for our rights and our system of laws.

As a conservative, I expect that you consider the unfettered use of federal power to be dangerous. The Minnesota BCA should be invited to collaborate with investigations of complaints against federal officers, especially those leading to the deaths of American citizens. The administration must find a way to work with state officials to advance legitimate goals of ICE and Border Control without encroaching on our rights.

As my representative in Congress, I implore you to push for at least normal oversight of these law enforcement agencies. ICE must be held accountable for illegal, dangerous behavior that infringes on our rights. No more masks, no more warrantless raids, no more escalatory deployments to American cities.

Respectfully,

Andrew Meunier

Dear Senator Schumer:

The recent actions of ICE and other federal agents in Minnesota have compelled me to write to you today. In the last few weeks, I have witnessed my own government engage in state terror not once, but repeatedly on the streets of Minneapolis. As the videos and stories pile up, I am frankly overwhelmed.

I can understand some deference to realpolitik given your party’s hopes for gains in the upcoming midterm elections. I agree that the oversight powers that such an outcome would afford you may give our Republic a chance of surviving this administration intact.

However, your party cannot continue to acquiesce to spending that funds DHS at current levels without restrictions. At a minimum, ICE must be held accountable for its lawless actions. No more masks, no more warrantless raids, no more escalatory deployments to American cities. Every Democratic leader must assert plainly and credibly: any agents of the government who break the law will be prosecuted in due time.

Respectfully,
